Story
I am taking on the 2022 London Landmarks Half Marathon to support King's College Hospital Charity!
For anyone who knows me well, this really is a BIG challenge, especially with two children under two. I absolutely HATE running and if you want to know why I’m putting myself through this crazy sort of hell than please read on..
To give you some context I’m not a runner, perhaps the odd sprint, 100/200m race at sports day or running to catch a train but that’s it. I think the last time I went running, well jogging, was about seven years ago. My old flatmate Jess and I used to get up on Saturday mornings to shake off the hangover from the night before and head along the river. I think it was the moment that an old man (80+) overtook me which then followed with Jess giving my back a gentle push to get me home, did I realise that running wasn’t for me. However, 2022 is the year I’ll be dusting off those old trainers and getting back out there for this wonderful charity.
I’m doing this because Kings welcomed both of our babies into the world. Our daughter was born at the start of the pandemic when I had to go in on my own and Chris was only really allowed in for the birth and had to leave a couple of hours later. I’m not sure I would have been able to do that on my own without the incredible support and kindness from the midwives and staff. Then the amazing homebirth team safely delivered our son at home at the end of last year. For any parent who is local to the area you’ll know how brilliant the Harris Birth right centre is for ongoing research in neonatal care.
Kings isn’t just our local hospital though, it’s where someone very dear to me is currently receiving treatment and care for a rare type of leukaemia. Thankfully Kings happens to be a world leading research facility for leaukaemia and blood cancers, very much so that it has been awarded a centre of excellence, as they continue to invest in pioneering research. Something I am eternally grateful for. Please know any donation no matter how small will be gratefully received.
Thank you for reading this far and for donating if you can, and if you can’t then maybe drop me a text or voice note with some encouragement because let’s face it I’m certainly going to need it. Most importantly thank you Kings for all the outstanding work everyone does there I hope this in some way shows how thankful I am.
