Run in Memory of Henry McKinney

London Winter Run 2020 · 9 February 2020 ·
My dad, Henry McKinney was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010, and sadly passed away on 3rd July 2019. Throughout the past nine years, daddy had brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy and undoubtedly fought such a battle so he could be with my mum and watch myself and my two siblings grow up. Despite his rapidly failing health he was able to watch myself, his eldest daughter graduate from Queen's University, Belfast through a live stream from his bed less than four days before he passed. My dad's stoic bravery was not only an inspiration to our family but also to his friends and to many people near and far, including those at his work place in Letterkenny University Hospital, in Donegal. Daddy worked in Letterkenny University Hospital for 21 years and was appointed Pathology Manager in the hospital despite his illness. Dad had a great vision about the future of science and during his time in this post, he worked incredibly hard, successfully creating state of the art laboratories. I intend to run the 10k in London, (which is two days before my dad's birthday on 11th February) because I believe that Cancer Research is vitally important, and statistically we now know that cancer in some form or the other, eventually and unfortunately knocks on most of our doors.
Whether it be £1, £10 or £50, any donation makes a difference and will help us to to eventually beat cancer. Thank-you.
