The branch is an independently run charity based in South Wales. It is a self-financing organisation committed to providing animal welfare services in its area. The Branch is affiliated to the national RSPCA, but receives no automatic funding from it. This means that the £800,000 annual running costs of the Branch must be entirely met from fundraising activities.

Story

You can use this page to make donations in lieu of flowers for Lesa as per her family's request - or you can sponsor me for the Cardiff Half - here's why:

My dear friend and work colleague Lesa passed away suddenly on Monday 14th September this year, aged only 43.

She was due to run the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 4th October.  Running was something she was always encouraging me and Kirsty to do in our lunch hour, and was our Mrs Motivator.  Being the enthusiastic, encouraging person she was, she'd always say "you can do it T, I know you can".  I can't.

Lesa was always doing something for someone else, she's the mad person who ran 7 marathons in 7 days for 2 wish upon a star - she became close to one of the campaigners through a road safety campaign in work and in true Lesa style became a friend and confidante for Angela and decided to do something for her. Not content with this, she picked up a new cause on the way after speaking to Paul & Coral Jones (April Jones' parents) - she said "I have to do something for them, I just have to". That's how she approached everything - what can I do to help? She also ran 2 marathons, rowed a marathon and cycled a marathon this year for Freya Bevan.

Her husband and sister picked Llys Nini because Lesa loved animals dearly.  She loved her dog Simba like her "furry baby", fed the birds in the office and adopted a squirrel (Squirt) who used to sit on the windowsill next to her desk and munch treats.  She sobbed her heart out over run over animals, and has taken loads to the vet to be saved, or gotten her dad John to bury the ones she couldn't save in his garden. she also nearly killed me when pregnant with Sean by swerving into oncoming traffic in our work van to avoid a squirrel (he was fine).  I never let her forget it!

There are loads of Lesa stories displaying how big hearted, kind, charitable, fun loving and caring she was.  I could write reams.

Instead, just know that whilst she would have easily run the marathon in less than 2 hours, I have not really trained for it, not expecting her to pull the ultimate motivational tool out of the bag, and am hoping to get round it in her honour in less than 2.5 hours.  I will be wearing Lesa's number, as many bright colours as I can and will be hearing her egg me on all the way.

The world is a worse off place without this girl, please sponsor me and give a bit back in her honour.

Love you Les, will miss you with all my heart xxxxx
