Virgin London Marathon 2016 · 24 April 2016 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Have tried a couple of times to find the right words for this....
I guess I'm an above average runner, in that, I have my place through good for age - meaning I achieved a good time in a previous marathon... Originally, doing London marathon was the April challenge, for my 12 in 12 challenge in 2016, but, back in October 2015, I got injured, and run training had to stop. As race was paid for, and travel etc, I resigned myself to just 'getting round this year'...
But..... I have, or had, or will always have, this amazing friend - Marcus... Our first race together was a 24hr race called Equinox, and following that, we made many race plans, and sum entries.... But, not long after that race, everything changed.... Race entries were cancelled or deferred, as treatment for the cancer started... Throughout, he remained positive, yes, there were hard days, but he had the way of looking forwards, and race plans were just put on ice....
He supported me with my injury, helped me look forward.... We had laughs, the odd down day.... But always supportive....
Then the worst news.... There is only so much and so hard you can fight, before it has taken everything you have, and more.... And Marcus reached that point on 11th Feb...
So..... For the most amazing friend, fighter, supporter and all round 'good guy' I needed to do something to not only help raise money and awareness, but for him, with him. So, however hard London marathon will be to run, it will never be a patch on the fight Marcus had since diagnosis.... Or the hole he has left behind...
I can't promise to run it all, and with the smile and good humour Marcus possessed, but, I will go out giving it 100%.... Carry him in my heart, and cross that line on his behalf.....
