BUPA Great North Run 2013 · 15 September 2013 ·

EVERY 90 SECONDS someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury (ABI). There are many possible causes, such as a fall, a road traffic accident, an assault, a tumour or a stroke. A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, we're here to help

Story

Throughout summer 2013 I'm going to be taking part in 3 runs (a 5k and 2 10ks) to raise money for Headway - the brain injury association.

In October my dad had a massive brain haemorrhage. He was treated by the brilliant staff at Salford Royal and is doing brilliantly.

Unbelievably this happened just a few years after my mum had two brain haemorrhages. We were amazingly lucky that she came through it all with nothing more than a couple of scars and a bad memory (although I think she had that anyway...) but other people suffer the after effects of a brain injury for years, or even the rest of their lives.

Headway provides support and understanding to people who have had a brain injury and their families as well as promoting improved approaches to treating brain injuries of all types. It's a hugely worthwhile charity and anything you can donate would be a massive help. It would also make me feel a lot better about running a stupidly long way...

Thanks!
