Story
Now that 2020 is coming to its end, I think it’s safe to say it has impacted many of us in ways that may not necessarily end with it on Friday. With so many people suffering bereavements, isolation, loss of income and general fear and anxiety as to what’s ahead, it’s important we all take time and reflect on our own mental well-being. While not everyone will need mental health support, for those that do it’s important to know that there are services out there that are able to help and listen.
With travel restrictions enforced globally, aviation workers in Ireland and around the globe have suffered job losses, career uncertainty, financial strain, isolation and general frustration in the past months. The subject of mental health in aviation has always been a contentious point, facing stigma, discrimination, fear, secrecy and criticism.
In a way to raise awareness to the topic of mental health in aviation and raise donations in aid of Mental Health Ireland I’ve decided to combine the two. For each of the 31 days of January I will run the length of different runways from my logbook (those who know me personally would know cardio is not my thing).
If you would like to help, please donate above and will all donations will go directly to Mental Health Ireland. If you would really like to help I would love if you can share this with your friends and family. If you would really REALLY like to help then join me on one of the runs (virtually of course) or any run/walk/cycle of your choosing, and help motivate me to keep going!
Mental Health Ireland lead the way in helping society’s understanding of mental health and fostering a culture where people with mental health difficulties are respected and supported. They promote positive mental health and wellbeing to all individuals and communities, and through their network of Mental Health Associations, they support people who experience mental health difficulties on their journey of recovery.
I know with the year it’s been and with Christmas just gone, not everyone will be in a position to but if you can donate it would be super! Your donations can give someone hope and let them know they are not alone. With your help they can be there for everyone who needs them. Thank you for your support and wish me luck!
