Story
Five years ago at 32 weeks pregnant, Adam and I were given the devastating news that our son's heart had stopped beating. He was born sleeping 3 days later. We do not know why it happened. Whilst we have been so incredibly lucky in having two healthy boys since, we will never forget Ewan.
The UK has relatively high stillbirth rates in comparison to other high income nations. Although it has started to drop in recent years, in 2013, 1 in every 216 births was a stillbirth.
We have already raised over £8,000 for SANDS during the last 5 years due to the generosity of friends, family and colleagues. I (Rachel) gave myself the target of doing the Great North Run half marathon this year. I haven't run this far since 2007 so it is a real challenge to get back into running regularly. To help prepare me I am doing two 10K runs - the Great Manchester Run in May and the Pennine 10k in my hometown, Burnley in June. I want the money raised to go towards to research to help reduce the number of stillbirths in future.
If you are interesting in following my 'journey', I'll be writing it about it in my blog http://anangelandtworainbows.com
