Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.

Story

Jennifer died suddenly at the age of 19 and her loving friends and family now want to raise awareness of the terrible disease that sadly took her life.

Jennifer Singh from Strathaven was found seriously ill on Sunday 30th March 2014 and died the next day despite the best efforts of doctors. More than two months following her death, an investigation by scientists at Glasgow University concluded she died of acute bacterial meningitis.

We want to raise awareness of meningitis to ensure young people watch out for the symptoms, including fever, and not to right them off as tiredness or a hangover. Acute meningitis is life-threatening inflammation of the tissue layers that surround the brain and spinal cord that is often caused by bacterial or viral infection. Symptoms develop over the course of a few hours to days and include headaches, sensitivity to light, and neck stiffness.
