Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.

At the start of October 2022 I returned home from the top of the world (literally) after having just summited Mount Kilimanjaro, to find my Dad in hospital with multiple organ failure. It was a short, sharp and sudden thump back to earth and a day I’ll never forget. When I got to hospital that day, Dad was in a bad way. He battled on bravely for 3 days, but regretfully passed away on my third evening back.

There were a number of causes that eventually got the better of Dad, but the main one? Chronic heart failure…

Dad hated people moping around; he didn’t want a funeral but a ‘celebration’ of his life. No-one was to wear black and there was to be many a Guinness sunk in his memory…and there was!

So in thinking what I can do in his memory? I’ve taken the ‘not sitting around’ literally, and decided to enter the "hardest foot race on earth", the Marathon des Sables. (https://marathondessables.co.uk)

I'm not a natural at this fundraising lark but if you’re able to spare any money to help support my cause I would be extremely grateful. It would be a great honour if all of the blood, sweat and blisters made a difference to others like Dad and their loved ones.

Sincere and heartfelt thanks,

Simon
