Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I really hope that you are feeling generous!
Unfortunately Zolly has had to withdraw as he has an injury that means he can't train. But I will still be running, and below is a brief explanation about why I am putting myself through this. To share the highs and lows of the journey please follow my blog: www.runningformilly.wordpress.com
In May 2010 we lost our beautiful Milly to meningitis. Milly was just four and a half and I cannot express how much we miss her.
For those of you who don't know us, Milly was Zolly's daughter and my niece. I am running the London Marathon to support Meningitis Now in their tireless campaign for a Meningitis B vaccine, and this is why: bacterial meningitis is the biggest killer of under 5s in the UK - and the majority of bacterial meningitis is caused by Meningitis B. There is now a vaccine available for Meningitis B, but the government is stalling on bringing it into the childhood immunisation schedule because of cost. Meningitis Now estimates that since the vaccine was licensed for use in January 2013 over 1000 people in the UK have had meningitis B , and with a death rate of 1 in 10, that is a lot of unnecessary deaths. I think this is outrageous, and I imagine you will, too.
Please donate to help Meningitis Now in their battle. They also provide amazing support to families affected by Meningitis, whether it's survivors living with the after-effects, or bereaved families. You can find out more about their amazing work here: http://www.meningitisnow.org/
