Story

HELLO AND SALAAMS THERE AWESOME HUMANS!

We want to gift a young Tanzanian girl the greatest gift we think exists - the gift of education.

The girl you see above is Venila, and her dream is to break out of the constraints of poverty and become a Nurse - will you join us on this journey? 🧑

Thank you so much checking out our page. We're Anisha and Khadeejah, two young (slightly crazy) medical students who have managed to convince themselves to run an absolutely ridiculously crazily long 26.2 miles. Mere mortals would call this.... a marathon.πŸƒπŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

"Why?" You may ask (as many of our friends and family have), "Are you out of your minds?" others may utter, "Why do you hate yourself so?!" some may exclaim.

Well, the answer may take a while to explain, but do strap in for one hell of an emotional rollercoaster!πŸ€ͺ🎒

At a previous event, Khadeejah met this incredible person named Michael, who introduced her to the charity he founded, TZ rising. TZ rising helps to educate and support girls in Tanzania, to allow them to break free from poverty using the power of education and empower them to pursue their dreams. It was a small charity, that stemmed initially from fundraising for a fellow Tanzanian friend to study at university, but now acts as a registered charity mentoring and personally supporting dozens of girls to realise their dreams.πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Ώ

Khadeejah mentioned this charity to Anisha one day, slouched on her bed whilst we were brainstorming causes to fundraise for. Inquisitive as ever, Anisha scrolls onto their website and begins reading.

To Khadeejah's utter shock, she watches as a tear rolls down Anisha's cheek.

Khadeejah had only ever seen Anisha cry on 2 occasions: whilst chopping onions, and when missing a snow day.

This, was a surprise.

It turns out Anisha had read the story of a young girl who we now have the privilege to now and love: Venila. 🧑

Venila is a girl like us. She has a dream, she loves helping people, and she wants to work in healthcare. As two brown girls who have been privileged enough to pursue their dreams of becoming doctors, we felt touched by this story.

We want to empower Venila to have these opportunities we've been enabled to pursue, and support her to grab this with both hands.

You might notice the total fundraising amount is very specific - why Β£1960.58?! This is the exact amount required to fund Venila's 2 year diploma in Nursing at the NTA Level 4 - to become a qualified nurse.πŸ‘©πŸΏβ€βš•οΈ

This gift will help Venila have such a powerful effect on so many lives. A small donation of Β£1 could go on to help thousands of people in Tanzania - what better for of Sadaqah Jaariya can there be?!

In light of COVID-19, we get that times are tough. Financial pressures piled along with uncertainty and anxiety make this a really difficult time for us all. We understand. However small a donation, or simply spreading awareness of this event is much appreciated. Whether your contribution be in pounds, posts or positivity, we really appreciate it.

It's taken us months to organise, plan and fundraise, and that's not even accounting for the hours of training, countless stitches, blisters and very very soggy socks (thank you British weather!🌦πŸ₯΄).

Normally we would have participated in an official event, but the uncertainty of the pandemic meant this was not possible. To compensate, however, we plan to run a very personal route around our London. We'll be passing through some of our favourite spots we've discovered over this year: places like our university campus, our favourite picnic garden and our accomodation halls (go JD!) alongside the Tanzanian embassy. Please do fill out the form if you'd like to support on the day! (COVID permitting) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd_i5wSjpCBuEMSu0XF1XFpAQJjWuZloE1JWl3lUh91WXnAgQ/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0

If you're still with us - WELL DONE FOR SURVIVING THAT ESSAY! There's so much more we'd love to add, so please do get in touch with us. Whether we're best friends, or you don't even know us - we hope you know that even the smallest donation will go on to make the biggest of differences.

All our love, always,

Khadeejah and Anisha πŸ§‘πŸ’›
