Story
A group of us are cycling to Paris over the late May bank holiday weekend to support women and girls living and working on the streets. Amos Trust is committed to realising rights for girls and young women, especially teenage girls. Teenage girls on the streets are sexualised, exploited, forced into commercial sex work or forced marriage, abused, become teenage parents and are first to lose their rights as a result of conflict. The traumas they encounter leave lasting scars. Our partners around the world are committed to addressing their psychosocial needs believing this to be critical to support teenage girls to realise their self-worth and claim their rights and their futures.
The ride takes place over four days. I can't promise to cycle all the way to Paris - I'll have to see how my stress fracture heals - but having had to ditch most of the plans I made for this year, I'm determined not to lose this one. I'll start off on my bike each day and there are two vans accompanying the cyclists, so if the distance gets too much I can get a lift. I'd like to raise £1 for every mile of the journey - £250 - which will go towards Amos' work with street children.
