A few years ago I was inspired by an 18th Century British politician, philanthropist and committed abolitionist by the name of William Wilberforce, who once said:
"If to be feelingly alive to the sufferings of my fellow-creatures is to be a fanatic, I am one of the most incurable fanatics ever permitted to be at large". William Wilberforce
At that time I did not know much about the nation of North Korea (NK). It wasn't until I saw a video of North Korea and how people were treated that I was awakened to a hidden reality that shook my bones and sent shivers down my spine. I heard what happens to people over there if caught praying, owning a bible or attempting to gather for spiritual encouragement. I learned that such activities are classed as illegal in North Korea and 'guilty parties' are not treated lightly.
North Korea is the most difficult country in the world to be a Christian. If Christians are discovered ,they are deported to labour camps or killed on the spot and many Christians would starve to death without support. This film clip shows what life is like there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLJ3AdcbGow
Fast-forward 4 years later, the opportunity to run hear a North Korean Christian at a UK event share her time in a North Korean Labour Camp for her beliefs in God. This precious loving woman shared the rawness of her suffering which was almost unbelievable. After hearing her story in person, I knew I had to respond.
In October 2019, I’ll be travelling to South Korea where I’ll meet North Korean refugees who have been imprisoned for their faith. I’m paying my own trip costs but I’m also aiming to raise £10,000 to bring life-saving aid to secret believers in North Korea. I’ll be running/cycling/walking ?? miles in an extreme challenge event called a Muskathlon. Please help me!
However, after many signs, miracles and doors opening, I know God has called me to go and I want to be obedient to His call.
Since then, I have wanted to do more to respond to this nation who's people are hidden from us by the comforts we so often find ourselves trapped in.
