2010 Glasgow 1/2 Marathon · 5 September 2010 ·

The Fund was created in 1997 to raise awareness of mesothelioma, fund research, and to support patients and carers. We have raised more than £1 million, mostly in small donations from those personally affected, for research, a helpline and educational/information events across the country.

Story

I will be running the Glasgow 1/2 Marathon again on the 5th September 2010 and would be grateful for any donations of any amount for my chosen charity this year, which is the June Hancock Mesothelioma Research Fund.

Last year, I ran for the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Trust and was amazed by the generosity of donations and I managed to raise over £500. Sadly, my father in law, Jimmy Gallagher passed away in December from Mesothelioma. I would be most grateful for any support you can give to this very worthy charity.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that develops in the lining of the tissues of the lungs and is caused by the inhalation of asbestos fibres. A short exposure can be enough and the disease may lie dormant for up to 40 years before symptoms begin to show.

There is currently no Government funding for research into Mesothelioma even although the number of cases are increasing each year at an alarming rate. Funding for research into this asbestos related cancer is vitally important.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks again. David
