Story

Well I made it in 4 hours 34 minutes - I am pretty pleased with that time

Thank you to everyone for your very generous sponsorship - It will help fund some world leading research into eye cancer.

I would also like to thank some amazing  people too

Firstly Caroline - I hope you were watching me from up there- The last 6 miles really hurt, but I thought of your courage , shed a tear and kept going

Secondly my beautiful daughter Anna who ran the marathon last year and inspired me to do this- she ran it 24 minutes faster than her Dad

I would also like to thank my wife Sara and my wonderful family who supported me though all of this - and I needed it

A special mention needs to go  Gayle Burton who has so tirelessly coordinated all the Caroline's Vision activity. Also the team at Epsom Downs- thank you

Following the very sad loss of Caroline Beaumont in November 2013, Epsom Downs Racecourse have set-up an £100,000 appeal - "CAROLINE'S VISION FOR CANCER" - to fund a specific project to fight eye cancer  through innovative research.

Caroline was a very special and inspirational person, colleague and friend, who I had the pleasure of working with over the last three years of her life, when her unstinting energy, generosity and zest for life were unsurpassed.  She made a lasting impression on everyone she met and if by running the marathon and raising funds in her memory I can continue some of her amazing force for all things good, then that is the least I can do to honour her memory.

The training is now well under way and Caroline would have loved to see that my training partner is my very special four-legged friend, Lola the Beagle!

I  ran the Surrey Half Marathon on March 8th (a tough training run - official time 1 hour 55 mins 54 secs ) and am planning to increase my training intensity  over the month of March

Please donate generously to this cause which is very dear to my heart and thank you! So far we have raised over £79,000 for the special cause, your donation will help us fund ground breaking world class research.

Rupert
