Story

Hi Folks,

As most of you will know my good lady, Anna has lived with Type 1 diabetes since first diagnosed aged 2 and so this is a very personal and important cause.

Over 7 (long) days in May 2019 I will be walking the 146 mile Grand Union Canal to raise money for essential research into diabetes.  The Grand Union Canal is the oldest and longest waterway in the UK and stretches from Gas Street in Birmingham all the way to Little Venice near Paddington, London.

Almost 4 million people in the UK have been diagnosed with Diabetes, of which almost 10% have Type 1 diabetes.  When you have Type 1 diabetes, your body attacks the cells in your pancreas that make insulin, so you can't produce any insulin at all.  Type 1 diabetes has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, it just happens. Still nobody is sure what causes it which is why it is vital to invest in research and support projects to help those living with Type 1 diabetes.

Thanks

Russell.
