Hadrians Wall Winter Trek · 22 October 2021

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Approximately fifteen years ago my father was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease. Shortly after his diagnosis we went for a hike across the South Downs for 7 miles. He was a strong man and at this time, you could barely tell of his condition. Over the years I have seen his physical deterioration. Each step has become harder for him and each conversation more exhausting. However, he battles every day with grit and determination trying to live as normal a life as possible.

In the UK, around 145,000 people are already living with Parkinson's. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed. That's the same as 18,000 people every year. It is because of my personal experience of Parkinsons disease that I want to fundraise for ‘Parkinsons UK’.

I want to do something mentally and physically hard as a nod of respect to my Father and those that march on with this terrible disease every day. Therefore, I will take up my own challenge to ‘march on’ by hiking the 84-mile length of Hadrians wall, in mid-winter! This will be done self-contained – I won’t be staying in B&Bs. I will be camping on route.

The money raised will go towards research, physical and emotional support service as well as to local services that provide exercise and social events to people with Parkinson’s.

Your support, anything you can donate, adds up. The funds raised will on some level make a fundamental difference to those with and affected by Parkinson’s so please give what you can, every penny makes a difference.
