We have decided to take part in a ‘10K your way’ challenge to fundraise for Petals, one of the only baby-loss charities in the UK. The work that Petals do with bereaved families is so critical, and as someone who has sadly lost 10 babies to miscarriage, I’ve had to suffer the devastation this brings with very little support. We, like Petals, believe that all parents should be entitled to professional and specialist counselling following the loss of any child, whether that be through miscarriage, still birth, termination for medical reasons (TFMR), or neonatal loss. Research has shown that bereaved families often find themselves unable to access specialist psychological care on the NHS, despite the fact that 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage and 12,400 parents suffer still birth and neonatal loss every year. That’s why we want to help Petals achieve their mission and be able to reach out to even more families, ensuring that nobody is left to struggle alone.

It is a sad reality that in the UK, 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. 1 in 200 babies will be stillborn every year. Over 5000 pregnancies will be terminated for medical reasons each year. And 24 babies die shortly after birth every single week.For many parents, these tragic deaths result not only in grief but also in trauma. Our counsellors provide a safe space to guide parents through the grief and trauma of their devastating experience to a place of reconciliation and hope for the future.We do this through our free counselling service, which specialises in supporting those parents who have lost their pregnancy or baby. Our national online video counselling service provides psychological support to people across the UK.By supporting this challenge you are helping raise money to fund counselling sessions for bereaved parents.
