Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride · 4 July 2010
I remember it well.
The day someone at the office suggested we do the Manchester to Blackpool bike ride. "Yes! Count me in," I yelled before adding, "Sixty miles? Eazy."
I'm ashamed to say I then poo-pooed one of my colleagues suggestions that we needed to train. Aaah, the ignorance of age (incidentally, I'm over 20 years older than most of my team mates but I'll show the bleeders).
Anyway, a few weeks ago I dug out my trusty old bike from the cellar and have been practicising (sorry, training) around the Cheshire lanes every weekend since.
Say it quickly and 'sixty miles' doesn't sound like a great distance but let me tell you, it bloody well is - I have 'numb bum' syndrome to prove it.
Before I unashamedly beg for a donation, please bear in mind that I did my first ever sky dive last week and didn't ask for a penny ... I've been saving it for this.
So, please, Wood Street Mission is a great charity.
I know about compassion fatigue. I know that we all get bombarded with requests but that's because we are fortunate enough to be able to spare a few quid.
It's lonely out there on those lanes ... surely I deserve something even if it's just for wearing the blinking helmet!
:)
