Ruth's First Marathon. Manchester Marathon 2022

Ruth Stunell · 3 April 2022
I have a mild scoliosis , Ehlers Danelos syndrome and one leg slightly shorter than the other. Despite that with some adaptions i am able to run ( with heel raiser/compression top and shoulder brace).I have also found that running helped my mental health after I suffered a major setback in life. For a few years i was not able to run because I had stretched by knee ligaments. Gradually over lockdown they healed up and my knee became stronger . I decided to try out running again and it was successful. It really helped me move forward in life. In October I ran a half marathon for Stubbylee Community Greenhouses and mental health recovery college. This is a charity that helps those with mental health problems. Now I want to raise money for those who help people with orthopaedic physical health problems which are more severe than mine and need surgery. I know the problems in life my issues have caused me so i can’t imagine how those with severe orthopaedic problems in the third world with no treatment cope. Or how the work of Mercy Ships can therefore transform lives.
I also have a friend Kathryn Dugworth who is volunteering on Mercy Ships and have been aware of Mercy Ships work for a while. It is good to at last be able to contribute something.
I hope you will feel able to sponsor me. If not then your prayers and support would be appreciated.
