Story

Hi everyone, thank you so much for clicking onto our just giving page! We are running the Manchester Marathon in memory of Leo Stevenson and raising money for the Glasgow Children’s hospital. Please read the story below from Leo’s parents, Adam and Rebecca Stevenson.

“Arriving on the 2nd August at 35 weeks, our son Leo’s first home was the NICU at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow. The NICU for anyone is a daunting place but for new parents it was something we couldn’t have prepared ourselves for. Quickly though it became a place of comfort & love for us, getting to see our son receive the best treatment he could possibly get from the best team of staff. Everyone within the NICU worked tirelessly to make sure we felt at home & that we were involved in Leo’s journey day and night. However despite Leo receiving the best care possible at the Queen Elizabeth the decision was made by the team that he would need to be treated at King’s College in London. Within 24 hours the transfer by Air Ambulance was arranged and Leo was moved to London in hopes that they would be able to provide lifesaving surgery & move back to Glasgow Children’s Hospital when he was more stable again.

Sadly our worst nightmare came true & Leo never got to return to his first home in the NICU in Glasgow. Caught in a whirlwind of emotions and heartache, Glasgow Children’s Charity supported us when we needed it most. From setting us up with bereavement groups to adding a leaf in Leo’s name to the memory tree within the hospital, these little things helped our hearts to start healing.

We are so grateful for the care & treatment Leo was given in the NICU, which without we wouldn’t have had those precious days with our baby boy, making memories & making the most of every single minute. We can’t thank the charity enough for making all of these things possible & for providing countless families the opportunity to make happy memories with their children during the hardest times. Truly a gift money cannot buy.

In memory of Leo & every child who has been cared for by the Glasgow Children’s Hospital.”

We are definitely not runners by any definition of the word but we are impulsive enough to sign up for a marathon on a whim. So please make our impulsive decisions make a difference and support us and this amazing cause by giving whatever you can! Thanks in advance for your support!
