Story
The Orchestra - Ruthless Jabiru
Ruthless Jabiru, London’s all-Australian chamber orchestra, is a bright new ensemble made up of professional Australian musicians based in the UK, with an emphasis on early career professionals.
Ruthless Jabiru was established in 2010 by Australian conductor Kelly Lovelady with thanks to the support of the Tait Memorial Trust and the official Patronage of Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe.
The orchestra was launched at St Paul’s Knightsbridge in November 2010 featuring acclaimed soloists Amy Dickson (saxophone), Valda Wilson (soprano) and introducing 2010 Tait Awardee, flautist Agatha Yim.
The orchestra was invited to perform in celebration of the memory of the Tait Memorial Trust’s late founding Patron, Dame Joan Sutherland, and affiliates John McCallum and Pat Tudor, and did so in the presence of conductor Richard Bonynge and His Excellency Mr John Dauth LVO, Australian High Commissioner.
As a result of that performance, the orchestra has now been invited onto a commercial recording project under the baton of Richard Bonynge himself, scheduled for November 2011.
The City of London Festival will be the next event for Ruthless Jabiru to make a definitive imprint on the London musical scene, with a programme honouring its own Patron, Peter Sculthorpe.
Fundraising
The orchestra has in part been supported by the Tait Memorial Trust as part of a long term artist support initiative. This year, some festival events have been commissioned on the premise of independent financial responsibility. Marketing and PR has been received, in kind, from both the City of London Festival and the Tait Memorial Trust.
Ruthless Jabiru aims to exceed all expectations on the level of performance required by the City of London Festival. In order to fulfil these expectations, costs such as artist fees, pre production (rehearsals), production fees and general overheads need to be met. In total, these costs mount up and donations for the orchestra are being sought.
Please donate here to help support Ruthless Jabiru.
Upcoming
Ruthless Jabiru's next event takes place at 7.30pm on 9 July 2011 at LSO St Luke's as part of the City of London Festival. Please email info@taitmemorialtrust.org for more information.
Ruthless Jabiru and conductor Kelly Lovelady will make their dynamic City of London Festival debut with a programme honouring the orchestra's esteemed patron, Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe and featuring soprano Emma Pearson.
A selection of Sculthorpe miniatures shares the platform with two vintage American masterworks, Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Copland's Appalachian Spring, paralleling the iconic soundworlds of these two vast countries.
