Our aims To provide support and information to those impacted by LHON; patients, their family, friends and healthcare providers. Provide guidance and representation on issues that affect the LHON community. Promote up-to-date knowledge and understanding of LHON in the welfare, medical and scientific communities. Facilitate research into understanding and seeking ways of preventing and ultimately reversing sight loss in LHON-affected people.

Story

HELLOOOO! Cheers for taking a look at my Just Giving page. I'm raising money for the LHON Society this year. I completed Tough Mudder a few years back to raise money for the RNIB. This 8 - 10 mile course with 25 obstacles is pretty tough (as you can tell by the name haha). I'm actually going to be pretty thankful that I can't see a lot of these obstacles, because they're a bit daunting. Wait, why am I doing this again...?

I'm doing this because in 2011 I lost my eyesight to a rare condition called LHON (Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy) over the space of a few months. Going from perfect sight to less than, I still continue to challenge myself and push myself to the limits. When I lost my eyesight, it would have been easy to give up, but I took it as an opportunity to either sink or swim. I try to take this attitude with me in everything I do.

The LHON Society is a patient-led support group that aims to provide support and information to those impacted by LHON; patients, their family, friends and health care providers and they facilitate research into understanding and seeking ways of preventing and ultimately reversing sight loss in LHON affected patients. I've been to a couple of their conferences before and taken part in the panels to help others affected. I've seen first hand how invaluable, those affected and their families, have come to find these conferences and the support they provide.

I've wanted to help raise money for this charity for a long time and feel it's difficult to give back for all the support they've provided.
