10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

On the 6th of April I will be fighting in a charity boxing event in Oxford hosted by the UWCB (Ultra White Collar Boxing). Starting from the 12th of February I will start my training to get in shape and put on a good show on the day of the event.

I have chosen to support the Ataxia UK charity for my event. I hope to raise money and awareness for this amazing Charity and to support people that suffer with this neurological disorder. Ataxia’ is an umbrella term for a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, coordination and speech. There are many different types of ataxia that affect people in different ways and affect people of all ages.

Personally, this charity is close to me as it is a condition that my Dad was diagnosed with. My Dad was a fit and healthy teen where you always think you have an infinite amount of time. He went on to play rugby for England while building a career as a chartered accountant and a part-time party animal. Unfortunately, Mark’s path took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed in his early 20s with a disability condition called Ataxia.

So I hope between this event and my sisters multiple marathons/half-marathons😂, we can raise a good amount of money that will go towards research in creating cures and treatments for people suffering with this condition!!!
