In July 2014, Ryan aged just 22 was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin T-Cell Lymphoma; a type of blood cancer. Ryan, with his whole life still ahead of him & with everything still to achieve, was devastated by the news. At the time Ryan was in his 2nd year of university & was beginning to dream about setting up his own business. This aggressive form of cancer meant he needed immediate treatment. The cancer left Ryans immune system compromised, which led to Ryan picking up endless infections, such as Septicaemia; a life threatening infection. Ryan was in a critical condition, which led to a never ending downward spiral of ill health. Ryan spent 12 excruciating days in intensive care on a life support machine, resulting in a brain haemorrhage rendering him with loss of vision & immobility. Against the specialists & doctors opinions, Ryan continued his fight against this horrible disease with his wonderful Mum & family by his side. With his health now rapidly deteriorating, Ryan encountered further complications & 2 further periods in intensive care meaning treatment was impossible with the cancer spreading throughout his body. The cancer was slowly consuming Ryan & everyday was a living nightmare, however throughout this ordeal, he still remained devoted to his faith & never once showed any sign of fear or defeat, finding strength & courage for his Mum & his family. Still in hospital, Ryan pinned his last hopes on a recommended antibody treatment. Which after a few courses, unfortunately showed no signs of positive effect on Ryan. Still showing a will to fight this cancer, treatment was unfortunately stopped with doctors informing him & his family that his fight would soon come to an end. On December 7th 2014 18:47, with all his family by his side, after 6 continuous months in hospital, Ryan sadly left us & his fight. Inspired by Ryans strength & courage, we will continue Ryans fight for him.
What is Lymphoma?
- Lymphoma is the most common type of blood cancer
- The two main forms of Lymphoma are Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
- Lymphoma occurs when cells of the immune system called lymphocytes (B-Cell & T-Cell), a type of white blood cell, grow and multiply uncontrollably
- Cancerous lymphocytes travel to many parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, blood and other organs
- The exact cause of lymphomas still remain unknown!!!
Today with your help, donations and support, we are getting closer to winning the fight against Lymphoma.
