Story

Help us to build a strong future for vulnerable young people in Rwanda by sponsoring a few bricks for our new centre. 6p buys one brick! 60p buys ten bricks! £6 buys 100 bricks! And so on!

We are launching ourSponsor a brick, build a future campaign here, to help us to reach this target and to get people involved in our work both here in the UK and in Rwanda.

We plan to transform a beautiful plot of land on the outskirts of Kigali (the Rwandan capital) into an amazing space for the young people we work with to grow and flourish.

A volunteer team from Brighton University's Architectural Department have been designing the buildings for us and the first brick of Umugongo House, our accommodation for boys who are former street children, will be laid in May 2013!

But we still need to raise an additional £175,000 to build Centre Marembo (our education, vocational training and support centre), and Abuje (our transit refuge home for girls and young women who have been victims of abuse). At the moment we rent three separate buildings in different parts of the city, so this will mean that our activities are much more sustainable and the young people will be living, learning and playing in a safe and fun environment.

Or fundraise for our building! Why not take part in a sports events, do a cake sale, a sponsored ‘night in with your mates’, or organise a ‘wear your own clothes to work day’! Drop us an email and we’ll send you a fundraising pack containing lots more ideas: sponsorabrick@ryico.org

About the charity

rYico is a charity founded in response to the needs of vulnerable young people in Rwanda. rYico has set up Centre Marembo, a training and resource centre that supports the personal development, education and training of young people including those that have been orphaned, neglected or left vulnerable as a result of the 1994 genocide. rYico also aims to increase social and cultural understanding about Rwanda within and between the UK and Rwanda though cultural exchange and education.
