Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In 2015 I raised over 2,300.00, this year I have a fantastic team joining me (Simon).- Keith, Chris,  James, Steve and Grem (meet the team below). A mix of veterans from the Royal Air Force; Royal Marines; Royal Navy; Army; Ex-Police and civilians all keen and very proud to support this fantastic charity of Walking With The Wounded.

Our 2016 Walking Home For Christmas (WH4X 2016) will take us just over 30 miles from Lichfield to the National Arboretum and then home via the canal system to Sutton Coldfield all on 16/12/16. Please take the time to support us and help our Veterans make a fresh start after giving so much.
Spread the word as much as you can with family and friends helping us smash the target and make a difference.

The triumph's of war are followed by many personal tragedies among the people who had made it possible. The fate of many of them summed up in a few poignant lines of verse:

"Who is it knocks so gently on my door?  That looks so way-worn, desolate, and poor; A paid-off sailor, once his country's pride; But now a wanderer on the highway's side." - KPJ

As well as donating online, you can donate via SMS by texting NUCY90 £your amount (Eg: £10) to 70070.

Meet The Team

Simon - served  in the Royal Air Force as a Policeman (The Team Crab). Now running his own business. In 2015 he raised over £2300.00p in the Walking Home For Christmas  campaign for The Walking With The Wounded Charity. He is very much looking forward to this years 30 mile walk - joined by 2 of his brothers; a nephew and close friends. Simon followed in the footsteps of 2 of his brothers in joining the Military and his parents who were both in the RAF, as was his grandfather who served with the RAF in WW2.  'Per Ardua Ad Astra'.👣

Keith - served  in the Royal Navy as a Signalman (The Team Matelot). and he has worked for the Samaritans and whilst with them highlighted combat stress as a real concern for the organisation to address. He quotes Lord Nelson, who denounced the treatment of ex-servicemen and women in a letter written after the end of the American War of Independence in 1797 - "We are a neglected set, and when peace comes, are shamefully treated". We have come a long way since then, but still not far enough.👣

Chris - served in the Royal Marines (Our pet Bootneck) and West Midlands Police. "I am really looking forward to raising awareness of the visible and non-visible injuries of our brave men and women in the service for their country.  At this time of year our thoughts turn to Christmas celebrations with our families at home, lets turn those thoughts to supporting this cause for those that endure a continuous battle just to get through the day".👣

James - our youngster on the team, who is also completing this charity walk as part of his 'Diamond' Duke of Edinburgh Award. He was in the Combined Cadet Force and will carry the old 'uns over the 30 miles! James carried the Solihull School CCF standard at the 2015 Royal Albert Hall Remembrance Service. A very proud day for him and his family.👣

Steve -  is our civilian and sister in law's partner!! He has never had to wear a uniform to work, but very proud to support those that have and raise awareness for this charity. He is a Senior Project Manager working for BAM Nuttall and has worked in the civil engineering industry for over 30 years. He is a keen walker (and beer lover) who has done a number of national trails but never 30 miles in a day, ouch this could hurt!👣

Grem - former West Midlands Policeman, who also served for 8 years in the 1st Mercian Battalion of the TAVR rising to the dizzy heights of Platoon Sergeant.  I am taking part in this walk to raise money for men and women who need and deserve our support.  This is my small way of saying thank you to them for what they have done for me and my family.👣

Room for more if you wish to join us and help our Veterans with Walking With The Wounded.
