Nuevas Esperanzas works with marginalised Nicaraguan communities as they seek to establish sustainable livelihoods and overcome the barriers that keep them in poverty. Our projects provide practical and technical assistance in the sectors of water, the environment, agriculture and education.

Story

I’ll be doing the Three Peaks on 19-21 June on behalf of the charity of which I’m a trustee, Nuevas Esperanzas (www.nuevas-esperanzas.org)  There are so many reasons to sponsor me

-NE works in some of the poorest communities in the Western Hemisphere, with most living at the threshold limit of a dollar a day
-But there’s huge potential here, with better water, access, agricultural techniques and exploiting the  Telica area’s tourism potential to build really good livelihoods
-If you’re an environmentalist, check out the work NE is doing through sustainable farming and apiculture to reverse deforestation and monoculture
-If you’re a feminist, NE’s work on organic gardens and beekeeping in particular have enabled women to contribute independently to the family’s income
-if you like engineering, check out on the website the cool suspension bridges NE has built to pipe arsenic free water for the first time to Telica communities
-And if you like animals, no longer having to be ridden to springs for 4 hours a day thanks to NE’s rainwater harvesting is doing wonders for the community’s horses and donkeys

Alternatively, you may just feel (like Aileen) that I’m getting a bit fat and could do with the exercise

Whatever the reason, thanks for all your support!
