Story
When I was around 18 I suddenly developed exercise induced asthma, and despite having always been a runner, I suddenly couldn't run anymore. Once I'd been diagnosed and sorted with a puffer, I started running again!
In 2022 I, like many others, got Covid19. Though I recovered fairly quickly, I then had a further three chest infections, and was on antibiotics four times in 12 months. My lungs just couldn't kick anything, and for two years I went between being sick, and being just about well enough to try and run again.
At the end of 2022 I decided enough was enough! I got my flu vaccine to try and prevent colds that turned into chest infections, and in 2023 I made it my mission to be able to run 5KM without having to spend the rest of the day in bed.
Since then, I've been running three times a week, every week. I recently ran the Holyrood 10KM Race for Life and for the first time in a long time, I felt perfectly okay after a long run. Now, I'm ready for the next challenge!
A Half Marathon! And this time, I'm fundraising for a charity that hits close to home for the journey I've been on.
1 in 5 of us will develop a lung condition during our lifetime. There's a new diagnosis every minute. Asthma + Lung UK are the only UK charity that fights for everyone’s right to breathe.
Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs. Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK’s nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!
