Sightsavers' vision is of a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes and where visually impaired people participate equally in society.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Sadia and I've decided to run a 5k, at the end of June, to raise money for Sightsavers. This is an international organisation, working in more than 30 of the world's poorest countries, in a mission to prevent sight loss, fight disease and promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities. 2.2 billion people have a visual impairment but almost half of this is preventable or treatable. For those in poverty, their sight offers a lifeline; a key aspect in helping them to generate an income via operating machinery, sewing and cooking.

Those who know me personally will know how close this cause is to my heart. Sight is a sense we all take for granted and many do not realise the significance until it is too late. A small donation can go a long way and have the potential to change someone's life. Without your sight, what would you be able to do?

The importance of sight is evident in this Hadith narrated by Anas Bin Malik; I heard the Prophet PBUH saying; Allah says "If I deprive my slave of his two beloved things (i.e his eyes) and he remains patient, I will let him enter paradise in compensation for them" [Bukhari].

Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Thank you/jazakAllah khayr in advance!
