Story

Sometimes, we are known to become awfully ungrateful. We complain about this work worry or that one; about public transport, about certain things being 'less-than' for us, and more. But while we find we have more than 'enough' to survive and live, in Yemen, people are dying as a result of things like being unable to access clean water. The Yemeni crisis is one whose direness will increase with the coming of the colder months.

Donate towards providing Winter Kits for vulnerable families in Yemen. May Allah (SWT) reward you immensely for your Sadaqah, Ameen.

£315 will provide a Winter Kit to a vulnerable family in Yemen, containing warm clothes, blankets, food, water and mattresses for the whole family, helping them to survive winter.

Each member of the family will receive:

  • a high thermal blanket
  •  a comfortable mattress
  • food
  • water
  •  warm winter clothes customised to age and gender including: winter fleece pyjamas, jackets, socks, woollen hats and scarves, thermal underwear, and shawls.

After five years of continuous conflict, the humanitarian crisis in Yemen is the worst in the world. 20 million Yemenis need help securing food and a staggering 14 million people are in acute humanitarian need.

230 of Yemen’s 333 districts are now food insecure.

For the first time in Yemen, assessments confirm the presence of catastrophic levels of hunger.

7.4 million people, nearly a quarter of the entire population, are malnourished, many acutely so.

In winter, while the climate varies greatly depending on location, changing weather can bring huge challenges to already vulnerable Yemeni families.

Rainfall comes in irregular, heavy torrents and the country experiences coolness with frequent frost. Temperatures can plummet from 22 degrees Celsius to below freezing at its coldest.

This winter, nearly 400,000 people are at critical risk of facing loss of life due to both the current crisis and upcoming severity of frost this season.

This winter, Human Appeal Yemen will be supporting 1,281 of the most vulnerable people in Almahweet and Ibb governorates who are in dire need of winter support.

Human Appeal Yemen will be taking measures to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 amongst the beneficiaries and the distribution team by taking the following actions: instructing beneficiaries to maintain 1-2 metres distance from each other throughout the distribution process, and clearly marking the allocated spaces at the distribution sites, increasing the number of distribution sites / outlets to avoid large gatherings, staggering distribution cycles and loading procedures to reduce frequency of gatherings and changing packaging, setting up hand washing areas with adequate supplies of hand wash solution (0.05% chlorine solution or soapy water).Organising winter kit assistance packs ahead of the scheduled distribution. Carefully controlling and mitigating against any crowding at distribution sites.
