Story

My Daughter Cassidy Blu was diagnosed with Leukaemia (ALL) 10 weeks ago,it came as a great shock to us all as she was still her happy self although a little lethargic. We were sent immediately to BCH and welcomed into the Childrens Cancer Centre.Cassidy was extremely poorly at that time (95% Leukaemia) she had blood transfusions, bone marrow aspirates and lumbar punctures done to determine which course of treatment was right for her.Cassidy was started on a course of Chemotherapy the next day,we had to stay at BCH for 9 days, the nurses were absolutely fantastic, there was not one i could fault, from the care given and shown to Cassidy or the support or information given to me and John.I also have to say the other parents were a great comfort, support and fountains of knowledge,so much stuff learnt by just talking to parents in this awful situation but who always had a smile and kind word to say to us,we have made some friends from there who knew exactly what we were going through. The Childrens Cancer Centre is in much need of expanding and modernising, they are running a fund raising appeal to raise the monies needed, they need 4 million, every little WILL help.Raising money for this department means so much to me,John,Cassidy and all my friends who have pulled together to come up with some great ideas, this is something we feel very strongly about, not just to benefit us or Cassidy but unfortunately all the other children and parents who will find themselves there in the near and distant future.10 weeks on,Cassidy has started a new course of intensive chemo (she is classed as high risk now instead of low). You wouldnt know she is poorly, apart from the obvious hair loss, she runs around, fights with her brothers, plays with her friends and cousins, goes horse riding and rides her bike, she has never once complained or moaned, the only time she cried was when i told her her long brown wavy hair would fall out (it was heart breaking for both of us), she has been an absolute star, she has made me even more proud of her than i was before and has put me to shame with how well she has handled this situation that was thrust upon all of us.Things are going well at the moment,we can only take 1 day at a time, everything can change in a heart beat.Thank you for taking the time to visit Cassidy's page. x
