Get Bare to Care - Sponsored Skinny Dip · 1 September 2018 ·
Rennie Grove's vision is that patients with life-limiting illness in our area can choose how and where they want to be cared for towards the end of life. They provide 24/7 responsive Hospice at Home care; a range of day services and support for all the family during the illness and through bereavement.
In 1993 my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. She only lived for three months; in that time she was cared for at home by her sister, Helen, and the wonderful nurses of the relatively 'young' charity, Iain Rennie. Sue Varvel (our case nurse) and Daphne Vessey were the main nurses looking after Mum, although others were always on call.
I have never forgotten the day my mother died, in her own bed, with Helen and me beside her, and Daphne comforting us.
When I stopped working, I joined the ranks of volunteers trying to pay back for the wonderful work the nurses are doing in providing end-of-life care (and it is true care) for the comfort of those dying and for their families both at the time and afterwards. I hope they're there for me when it's my turn!!
