We are the largest regional charity in Sussex and Surrey working to prevent youth homelessness and support children and young people’s emotional and mental health. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Story

Every Friday and Saturday night from 11pm to 3.30am @ St Paul’s Church on West Street, the SAFE SPACE doors are open to anyone who has become intoxicated, distressed or injured during their night out and who needs:

  • emotional support: non-judgemental listening for anyone who feels upset, distressed, overwhelmed or even suicidal.
  • practical support: a warm, dry, safe space to sober up, get a hot drink, charge your phone, contact and reconnect with your friends, and get help to get home safely.
  • medical support: first aid from trained British Red Cross volunteers, which helps ease the strain on A&E.

Your money will help us to run more 'beach patrols' in addition to our West Street base - proactively scouring the shoreline and dark areas of the beach for vulnerable people, and taking them to safety, providing them with the support they need that night and beyond.

Safe Space is run by YMCA DownsLink Group as part of Pavilions (who delivers all the drug and alcohol support in the city) in partnership with British Red Cross.

Donating to Safe Space through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe and your money will go to YMCA DownsLink Group who will assign every penny donated directly to the Safe Space project. THANK YOU!
