Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.

A community fun run event will be held on Sunday 25th June starting from Saint John Houghton Academy.  This was the workplace of our friend and colleague, Mick Hackett.

Mick was a really lovely man.  He made people laugh.  He loved to chat about football, music, family and he had a wicked sense of humour, even during his illness.

Mick was a talented musician and had played in a number of bands.  It must have been so difficult for him when the MND progressed and prevented him playing his guitars.

Sadly for his family and friends, Mick was taken by MND all too soon after being diagnosed.

It says so much about Mick that he was loved so much by his family and friends.  You couldn't help but be drawn to his cheeky smile and that Black Country accent.  We miss you Mick.

In recognition of the support that Mick and his family received from the MNDA, particularly the Nottingham branch, our Academy PTA are hosting the community fun run event where participants can be sponsored to run or walk and raise funds for the charity.  You can make donations securely directly from this page.

The charity relies almost entirely on voluntary donations.  Funds raised are used by the charity to provide support to people with MND and their families, provide specialist equipment and promote vital research into better diagnosis, treatments and a cure for MND.

MND is a  rapidly progressing fatal disease with no known cure.  It attacks the motor neurones that send messages to the brain and the muscles, leaving people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves.  Sadly this disease kills five people every day in the UK.

Thank you for reading the information on our page.  We hope that you feel able to make a donation to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) charity in memory of Mick Hackett which will enable the charity to continue the work it does.

If you wish to enter our event, please do so via the StuWeb.co.uk events page and search for our event on 25th June 2016.  Early bird prices apply until 9th June.

Thank you for supporting this charity event.
