We build electric eco-fences in Africa to protect Africa's threatened ecosystems

Story

2019 will see The Girls in Pearls all ladies team once again compete in the Rhino Charge in Kenya!

The 30th Anniversary Rhino Charge in 2018, although the shortest straight line route set so far, was particularly challenging to navigate, due to the thick and lush bush after the heavy countrywide rains, as well as the steep sided hills and river valleys which had to be negotiated to reach the check points.

A new rule introduced in 2018, meant that teams would be penalised for using roads during the Charge, which resulted in check points being deducted from final results. This meant that despite the Girls in Pearls team battling through the obstacles facing them, charging through the thick bush and crossing rivers, their overall result did not reflect their efforts, after having 5 controls deducted from their total controls visited.

This year once again, we will enter in the unmodified vehicle category, in our trusty 1957 Landrover, 'WACUS'. This will be the 25th year that WACUS has competed in this event, and we are expecting a great performance after having had his first engine overhaul for 15 years.

As usual, we will "Charge" adorned in pearls, bright lipstick and a sense of humour and gladly lend a hand to our fellow competitors en route. The 'Girls in Pearls' Team have become one of the best known and loved teams competing in  the Rhino Charge and have been featured numerous times on Polish TV.

The Rhino Charge raises money to fence and protect water catchment areas of Kenya. They have funded a 440km fence around the Aberdare Mountain Range, a 45km fence around Mount Eburu and are now undertaking the fencing of 490kms around the Mount Kenya Game Park. These fences not only protect the forests and wildlife from incursions by humans, they also protect the neighbouring farms from incursions by wildlife - a win/win situation!

The Girls in Pearls are committed to supporting the Rhino Charge Charitable Trust whose motto is "Helping Humans live in Harmony with Wildlife".

Thank you for talking the time to visit our JustGiving page and we will be extremely grateful for any donation to the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust through Car 47 - The 'Girls in Pearls' Team!

Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu. These provide an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo as well as protecting vital upland watertables of Kenya
