Story
We want to raise as much money as possible for this much needed charity, especially during these challenging times when so many people living with dementia are in need of the critical resources Alzheimer's Society provides. Many thousands of families across the world watch their loved ones painfully robbed of all their cognitive abilities and physical functions, which is why we want to be a tiny drop in the ocean by supporting a charity that has helped us as a family and provides research, support and campaigning for a better future for those living with dementia and one day, hopefully a cure.
Everyone's experience of dementia is different. Our mum's journey has seen her go through long periods of anxiety, low mood and being terrified. It's seen her hospitalised numerous times, culminating in her being removed from her home, never to return. It's seen her walk for miles, getting lost in a country lane when the day before she could barely walk. It's seen her slowly become less aware of who her loved ones are and now, to not recognise them. A shell of her former self, we are sometimes still able to laugh and communicate with mum through play and we cherish those times. We also remember other family members who suffered with dementia; Nanna, Uncle Tony, Auntie June, Nanny and Grampy.
By 2021, over 1 million people in the UK will be living with dementia. Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity focused on addressing the growing dementia crisis from all sides.
Your donations enable Alzheimer's Society research into care and cure, provide support and training, and campaign for the rights of people living with dementia. If you are able to donate, we would be very grateful for your contribution.
