Story
Joy was always the 'proper' runner among us. In fact, seeing her cross the finish line of the Birmingham Half Marathon was what made Sally take up the sport in the first place! Part of us thinks she'd be miffed that we're running a marathon without her. Underneath our competitiveness, however, we do hope that she'd be proud and would have been there on the sidelines cheering us on.
One thing we're sure of is that she'd be pleased that we're running to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. In her career as a dentist she focused on special care, looking after those suffering with dementia (among others) and this charity really had a special place in her heart. No matter how much you can donate (in the immortal words of Tesco, every little helps!) please also take a couple of seconds to become a 'Dementia Friend', something Joy was constantly badgering us to do:
www.dementiafriends.org.uk
This is an offshoot of Alzheimer's Society, and they will help you with booklets and videos to understand what it is like to live with dementia, and what you can do for sufferers of this condition in your community. It will only take seconds to do and could make a world of difference to someone with dementia.
Thank you for visiting our page, and for reading our blurb. Your support means a huge deal, and is helping us to continue Joy's wonderful, huge-hearted legacy.
(Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
