We support Royal Marines and their familes to overcome their challenges

Story

Updated on Oct 28th 2012 at 8:29 AM from the JustGiving API

Thanks to my supporters to date and I have until Remembrance Sunday (11 November) to raise the remainder of my target. All donations welcome for the RMCTF. Having faced my own fears and completed three challenging abseils with our Royal Marines (The Shard, St Pancras and Twickenham) I continue to be in awe of their courage, humour, determination; their Commando Spirit and am determined to continue to do all I can and help others to do all they can to support Royal Marines and their families in need.

Oh my! On Monday 3rd September, with the support of our Royal Marines Commandos, I will be amongst a small band of people taking on the first and only abseil of the iconic Shard, Western Europe's tallest building, fundraising for the Commando Spirit Appeal for the work of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund supporting Royal Marines and their familes in need.

It wasn't my intention to take part; my focus has been on recruiting and supporting our Commando Spirit participants but I am honoured to be invited to be part of the team and I am determined, with your help, to make the most of this unique fundraising opportinity.

My biggest fear? That I bottle it and let the lads down. So I promise to take my bottle in my hand and just jump! Please do sponsor my efforts as I endeavour to raise £25K to make it all worth while.

Why the Commando Spirit Appeal?

At the heart of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Funds fundraising endeavours are the Commando Spirit Series of once in a lifetime challenges to test your mettle and give you a taste of what it means to be a Royal Marines Commando whilst raising serious sums for the Commando Spirit Appeal for Royal Marines and their families in need. This year, Commando Spirit participants are being challenged to abseil, with the Royal Marines, from iconic locations across the UK and so we are delighted to be able, with the support of HRH The Duke of York and all the partner organisations, to be a part of the Descent of The Shard. The unique opportunity to abseil from the pinnacle of The Shard will give all participants the chance to show their own Commando Spirit qualities of courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in the face of adversity.

Why the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund?

The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund helps Royal Marines and their families when they need it most. They aid the wounded and injured. They give quality of life to those returning from operations. And when the worst happens, they support the families of those who die in service. The RMCTF has the widest purposes of almost any service charity - quite simply, the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund will help when others cannot.
