This year marks the 30^th anniversary of winning my Olympic gold medal and I felt raising money for the Born Free Foundation would be a fitting way to mark the occasion! Being able to give back and have a positive impact! 

My husband Jon and I will be taking part in the Mount Kenya ‘Climb for Conservation’! We will be hiking over difficult terrain and ascending heights of up to 4985m, while staying in primitive mountain huts or tents.  

Mount Kenya rises to a towering 5199m and is located in the heart of Kenya in a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll ascend the mountain by the Sirimon path to Point Lenana and descend using the Naro Moru way. Due to its relatively moderate ascent, the Sirimon path is regarded as one of the finest for acclimatisation, therefore our chances of successfully reaching the summit are good. We are very grateful to our assistant guides and their team who will accompany our group to make the climb possible! 

The Mount Kenya Elephant Corridor, a 14 km protected canal that allows elephants travelling between Mount Kenya and the Ngare Dare Forest to do so in safety. It also benefits other species, including the likes of spotted hyenas, wild dog leopards, porcupines, and warthogs!
