Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My father sadly passed away last summer whilst in the care of The Sue Ryder hospice, Thorpe Hall, Peterborough after a short battle with a very aggressive Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Sue Ryder's mission is to be 'passionate about giving people the care they want'. This was entirely appropriate for my father who, having served the community in Peterborough as a GP for over 35 years, disliked being made a fuss of.
William and I have chosen to race Dublin 70.3 to celebrate his life and to raise money for this worthy cause. The Dublin 70.3 Triathlon involves a 1.9k swim in the lovely Irish Sea in Dun Laoghaire where the ferries come in, just south of Dublin. After a quick strip off of the wet suit we will embark on a 90k bike ride up to Dublin and then out to the West towards Kilcock and then back to Phoenix Park in the centre of Dublin where we'll finish with a 21k (half marathon run). Roger grew up in Dublin, met my mother at medical school, Trinity College and then relocated to England. My grandfather lived in the same family home until the age of 100. As children, my parents (Roger and Pam) and two sisters (Constance and Joanna) spent every Easter at the Dublin home as well as a few days at my aunt and uncle's farm near Kilcock. The triathlon bike course takes up almost past the family home in Dublin and also out towards the farm (where William and I will be staying) so it seems a perfect race in which to take part. As a competitive man, my father would be 'tickled pink' to know his daughter and grandson were racing each other to celebrate his life. His money would definitely be on his grandson for the win!
