Race to the Stones 2023 · 8 July 2023 to 9 July 2023 ·

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

So it turns out that peer pressure can get you at any age.  My cousins run, my sister runs.  She's called me crazy for sky diving and wing walking.  I've called her crazy for running marathons.  Someone (not sure who, but I'm pretty sure they were holding a glass of wine at the time) suggested we take on the Run to The Stones in memory of my dad. "We can walk it in two days" they said.  "It'll be fun".  It's only 100km.  Evidently I agreed, and then signed up.

It was only later that I remembered I had only ever done a 10k race once.  I followed advice and a plan and we managed it all - through stormy and incredibly hot weather (at the start we were told to keep our phones on so we could be given safety instructions if the lightning arrived!)

It just goes to show - if you take the right advice and have an amazing team you can achieve things you never even thought of attempting!

It's all in an amazing cause.  Our dad died with the disease and Parkinsons UK do fantastic research and provide excellent support and information about what is a truly horrible disease.
