Story

Thank you so much for visiting our Just Giving page. Here's a message from Sal...

"Most of us at some point in our lives will be touched by dementia, whether that's a mum, dad, husband, wife, partner, friend, aunt or uncle. With that, comes a range of gut-wrenching emotions that not only affect the person, who will at times feel anxious, frightened, angry and confused, but also the family & friends who will inevitably see on a daily basis that person slowly slipping away from them.

With an equal measure of emotions, we as a family have been so very very lucky to have the support of some amazing people to care for our mum at home, but some people don't have the luxury that we have. What is super important to us is to look forward with the hope of a cure, but we are very conscious of the now; people that need support right this minute, whether that be help with day or night care, a respite of a couple hours, support emotionally and physically.

So please, give what you can. We really appreciate that times are tough, but thank you to everyone who can give just a little or a lot, and I'll do my best to donkey to the finish!"

The Challenge

Sal is embarking on the challenging journey to complete the six marathons that make up the Abbott World Marathon Majors. In April 2023 she completed her first quest with the London Marathon, and she'll keep the momentum up in September with the Berlin Marathon.

Sal will be facing six of the most iconic 26 mile courses on earth. With your support, she intends to complete all six marathons over the next three years, raising as much as possible for The Alzheimer's Society as she goes!

The six marathons that make up the Abbott World Marathon Majors are:

- London (April 2023) COMPLETED

- Berlin (September 2023) COMPLETED

- Tokyo (March 2024) COMPLETED

- Boston (April 2024) COMPLETED

- Chicago (October 2024) PLACE CONFIRMED

- New York (date TBC)

Donate now to show Sal your support and give her that boost she'll need to reach this awesome goal!

So what does the Alzheimer's Society do?

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. The charity is dedicated to helping people affected by dementia - both those with the condition and their caregivers. Until the day we find a cure, they strive to ensure that those affected by dementia are supported and accepted - able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

This Alzheimer’s Society:

- Provides essential services, such as access to research funding, information and support, along with fun activities that promote social interaction.

- Raises awareness of the disease through campaigns, workshops and training courses that offer advice on understanding dementia and living better with it.

- Provides a wide range of care services, including day care centers available for individuals or groups of people with dementia.

Your donation will help to fund the work of the folks who work tirelessly to promote understanding and improve the lives of countless people affected by Alzheimer's.

Thank you!
