Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Manchester Marathon for a couple of reasons, to get fit and achieve something I have never done before. Most importantly I am running for a charity very dear to my close family friend Stewart Tranter who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2013. He has been an integral part of the family for more years than I can remember and although he has some strange obsessions, Bristol City for one, he is a top top man. Stewart, Anna and little William (the 2nd) have an amazing family, see picture above. Please do take the time to look at his story below. The research that this fantastic charity does makes a huge different to so many families.

Stewart's story

I was diagnosed in 2013 with a grade 3 inoperable brain tumour.I underwent 30 sessions of gruelling radiotherapy and 14 months of chemotherapy which I couldn’t have gone through without the immense support of my wife and our family.

The day I was diagnosed turned my whole life upside down. The prognosis for brain tumour patients is poor, only 20% survive beyond 5 years. I was just hoping I would be one of these patients and live far beyond that. I want to be statistical outlier, the dot on the edge of the graph, the miracle.

I’ve been lucky. Brain tumours kill more people under 40 than any other type of cancer. Research into treatments for this difficult cancer is woeful, attracting less than 2% of the national cancer research spend.

Ive been very lucky, but my tumour is still there and almost certainly will return. Only new treatments will provide new hope for me and thousands of others. Research into treatments needs money and you donation could literally save thousands of lives. One day of research costs £2,740. Any amount donated will help fund these days which one day will produce a cure.

I want to see my son grow up and spend many happy years with my wife and son.

Please give generously.”
