In June 2024, my pal Rob and I are hiking 26.2 miles along the stunning South Downs Way to raise money for people living with cancer.

Many of you will recall that we both undertook a similar task in Northhumberland in 2021 and thanks to your donations raised over £2,000 for this fantastic charity. 

In the intervening period, cancer has continued to play a part in both of our lives, from the difficult (a family member being diagnosed for a second time) to the more positive (I passed 5 years in remission in October 2023). 

Macmillan offers patients, relatives and even those of us lucky enough to be in remission support and information and is a uniquitous presence in many people's treatment and recovery. It's a real swiss army knife of a cancer charity and does so much for so many in really challenging positions.

In 2021 we thought that walking this distance would be challenging but manageable. Our optimism was unfounded. Whilst it's clearly not as impressive as running a marathon, it's the same distance and longer on your feet. A lot of good toenails were lost that day. Plus Rob had to endure 9 hours of conversation with me, which I think he'll probably admit was the greater ordeal.
