Aquarius are a Birmingham-based charity who support adults struggling with various addictions, as well as children and young people who use substances or gamble, and those who are affected by a parent or carer’s substance misuse.

Many years ago, Aquarius supported my Dad when he was struggling with an alcohol addiction and managed to put him on the right path for almost three years. Although we would lose my Dad a few years later, the support Aquarius provided gave us the time to make more happy memories of his life.

There is a real stigma to addiction, often resulting in a tragic ending for people who don’t get the support they need, and a profound impact on an individual’s family.

By the time my Dad was struggling, I was at University and wasn’t relying on him to protect or raise me, but other young people aren’t so lucky. Addiction can pass down generations.

Aquarius offer a wide range of support and don’t simply close the door when someone says they’re clean or safe.
