Story
I'm running the Hackney Half Marathon to raise vital funds for Action Tutoring, a national education charity dedicated to closing the attainment gap between pupils from low-income backgrounds and their more affluent peers. I've volunteered with them for a couple of years now and the work they do is fantastic!
Due to the pandemic, the attainment gap between pupils on free school meals and their more advantaged peers is now at its highest mark in a decade and pupils living in persistent poverty are now, on average, over 22 months behind their classmates by the end of secondary school.
Your donation will help provide the pupils they support with focused tuition, delivered by trained volunteer tutors who help build their maths and English subject knowledge and confidence, opening doors for them academically and in the working world. Many of you will know how passionate I am about the work charities like Action Tutoring do. Every donation (big or small) will help them recruit nerds like me to play a small part in levelling the academic playing fields, and enable the brilliant young people they work with to achieve their best.
