Gaucher disease is a rare, inherited metabolic disorder which results in a build up of certain fatty substances in certain organs, particularly your spleen and liver.
Gaucher disease causes these organs to enlarge affecting their function and the fatty substances build up in bone tissue, weakening the bone and increasing the risk of fractures
Gaucher disease affects the body by:
- Spleen and liver enlargement
- Bone pain and easily fractured bones
- Anemia (low blood counts) and fatigue
- Bleeding and bruising problems
