I shall be running Retford Half Marathon on March 6th 2022..2nd time, with more time to train, not only to raise funds for this amazing charity but in memory of our little boy Alfie who passed away 13th June 2015 aged 7 💙

Alfie was diagnosed on the 5th Nov 2012 aged 4 with stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma, his prognosis was poor from the onset. Alfie endured 6 months of intensive chemotherapy, 28 days of radiotherapy and 12 months of maintenance chemotherapy. Sadly less then 3 weeks after he finished treatment the cancer decided to show its ugly head..Alfie was never in remission, he was never cancer free..but we never expected it to take over his body in such a short space of time. We had 12 months with our boy, and made so many amazing memories, Lapland, Paris, London..

Knowing how hard it is as a family and to watch your child go through something so gruelling and you have no control over anything is just heartbreaking. Having other children at home whilst you are over an hour away in hospital for weeks on end is also so so hard. Cancer takes over everyone's lives, you make friends through the cancer journey. But lose friends in the normal world, people who you thought were friends. When it's all over you then realise that the people you thought would stay friends sadly don't.. Its hard being a bereaved parent and sibling, and it's hard being a cancer parent too.
