Story

Dad was never more content than when he was outside in the fresh air; wrapped up, whisky in hand, watching the kites circle overhead, taking in the views. He spent his last couple of months within the beautiful surroundings of Saint Michael’s Hospice which was the perfect retreat.

The relief we all felt for him after the trauma of hospital, is not easy to put into words but was far greater than any of us anticipated. As a family, each and every one of us was shown so much compassion and support by the amazing nurses and staff- it wasn’t just Dad but his entire ‘Brady bunch’ that they took care of!

Despite the fact Dad was so very poorly, the colour quickly returned to his cheeks when he realised he could have a daily tour of the grounds in his custom-made wheelchair! All thanks to the hospice navigating the way for him, he was able to find a quality at the end of his life that none of us could have foreseen but that we are eternally grateful for.

We feel so passionately about Saint Michael’s, that all our fundraising efforts will go toward ensuring that other families will be carried through such a traumatic time, in as gentle and reassuring way as we were.

Dad touched the lives of so many people in his lifetime, always leaving a lasting impression. We hope, through our fundraising, to continue to do the same in his honour.

We cannot thank you enough for being a part of Dad’s legacy. He would be truly humbled to know his memory and fight inspired something so positive.
